OUR STORY

We started our Karate journey under my father, Joel Narvaez who has well over 40 years of Shotokan Karate Experience in the midst of his hometown Baguio, Philippines.

In 2008, Sensei Joel opened his dojo under KUA (Karate Union of Australia) in Campsie Public School. His Son, Joeceph Narvaez also started his karate journey at the age of 11.

Later on, Sensei Joel and Joeceph deepened their understanding of Shotokan Karate through teaching and learning from their students from all ages.

The heart of JKA Campsie isn't about trophies, rank, money, attendance etc. What really matters is making everlasting friendships from students to instructors that we all have one goal in common...

To seek perfection of character.

Be faithful.

Endeavour.

Respect others.

Refrain from violent behaviour.

At the end of the day, it's the respect from each other will prolong your and everyone's karate journey.

As a school, JKA Campsie aims to support, develop and advance the proper, healthy and lawful practice of karate. High expectations are held for everyone, and ensures that students develop their skills to the highest standard. Teaching and learning experiences incorporate research-based practices, such as the repetitive practice of skills, drills, and sequences during lessons. This assists the transition of a skill from the conscious to the subconscious. As students improve, they don’t need to think consciously about the skill, which in turn frees up the brain to learn new, more complex skills and concepts.

An integral essence of JKA Campsie is to instil lifelong perseverance and determination in individuals and foster humility and gratitude in all interactions. These qualities, along with other imperative life skills, are what allow individuals to succeed, not only in karate, but in life.

More than just a karate club, JKA Campsie is a family. Instilling positive and inclusive attitudes within its students, all successes are celebrated and each student’s efforts are acknowledged; fostering lifelong friendships and a close bond amongst members.

What really matters is making everlasting friendships from students to instructors that we all have one goal in common...

To seek perfection of character.

Be faithful.

OUR CLASSES

At JKA, we know that karate is more than a sport, it’s a way of life, therefore our Traditional Japanese Karate customs are always practiced and ingrained in the JKA System. By doing so, we get to see our students improve and become better persons physically, emotionally and psychologically.

Practicing karate can have lasting mental benefits such as reducing aggression and improving alertness. We want all our students to see what they are truly capable of and be responsible for it. Most importantly, we promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where teens can build friendships and a sense of community.

Classes include:

Physical conditioning such as sprints, jumps and body weight exercises such as push ups and burpees

Kata (forms where students learn technique)

Kumite (sparring, with an emphasis on control and technique)

Kihon (basics, such as correct breathing technique, stance etc)

AFFILIATION

Many of the techniques taught at JKA Karate were developed by Sensei Joel in response to common attacks he observed happening in the community.

JKA Karate Campsie and Sensei Joel are members of the NSW Karate Federation and the Australian Karate Federation. In fact, we are the only school in our area who are members of the NSW Karate Federation and the Australian Karate Federation. This means that JKA Karate Campsie students have the ability to make the NSW Karate Team and the Australian Karate Team.
