For students who want to take their karate beyond regular dojo training, JKA Campsie provides a pathway towards

representative competition, NSW Squad selection and ultimately international JKA competition in Japan.



The journey starts with strong fundamentals, consistent training and a commitment to improving both your karate and your character.


The Pathway

JKA Campsie → Advanced Training → NSW Squad → Australian Team → Funakoshi Gichin Cup, Japan

Students who demonstrate the required skill, commitment, attitude and competitive ability can work towards selection opportunities at each stage of the pathway.


NSW Squad

The NSW Squad brings together talented and committed karateka from across NSW for focused training and competition preparation.


Squad training provides an opportunity to develop at a higher level, with greater emphasis on:

  • Advanced Kata and Kumite
  • Competition strategy and tactics
  • Timing, distance and movement
  • Speed, power and precision
  • Mental preparation and discipline
  • Teamwork and representing JKA with pride


Being part of a squad is more than simply winning tournaments. It is about developing the mindset, consistency and technical standard required to perform at the highest level.


The Road to Japan

For dedicated competitors, the long-term goal can be selection for the Australian JKA team and the opportunity to compete at the Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate Championship in Japan.

The Funakoshi Gichin Cup is JKA's premier international championship, bringing together competitors from JKA organisations around the world. The tournament is held approximately every three years, making each cycle a significant goal for athletes working towards international selection.

The most recent championship was the 16th Funakoshi Gichin Cup, held in Takasaki, Japan, in October 2024.
